Struggling With GAS and Prioritizing My Life

I (allegedly) “returned to playing music” in August of 2020 when I bought a “Squier by Fender Affinity Precision PJ Electric Bass Pack” from Amazon.

Prior to that, it had been well over 11 years since I had touched any bass or guitar.

I did not realize it at the time that my purchase of the Squier would begin a struggle with Gear Acquisition Syndrome or G.A.S. This is the habit of buying equipment rather than making use of and honing your skill with the equipment you already have.

Sixteen (16) different guitars, fifteen (15) assorted basses, and fourteen (14) amplifiers in the space of six years. This made me a dilettante. This was depressing.

I have been more interested in buying basses and guitars, taking photos, and then posting them on Internet forums than I have been in becoming a competent musician. And the problem has returned with a vengeance given that in the past month I have picked up two Yamaha basses and an Epiphone Les Paul. Making every excuse that I can, all the while.

I have made several attempts to stop buying equipment. I have to commit to the quit. There are far more important things that I need to focus on. My relationship with Jesus Christ, my relationship with my family, and taking care of our home.

I keep saying this; I need to do it.
